The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles in accordance with dealership and manufacturer standards. This role involves working on a wide variety of vehicle systems and components, ensuring that vehicles are repaired and serviced in a timely manner while adhering to safety and quality standards. The Service Technician must demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate effectively with both customers and service department staff.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Vehicle Diagnostics and Repairs:

o Diagnose and identify vehicle issues using specialized diagnostic equipment and tools.

o Perform a wide range of repairs on various vehicle systems, including the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, exhaust, electrical, and HVAC systems.

o Replace worn-out or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts.

o Perform scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid changes, and inspections.

o Conduct test drives to verify repairs and ensure the vehicle is operating properly.

2. Vehicle Maintenance:

o Perform routine maintenance tasks on vehicles, such as fluid changes, tire balancing, brake inspections, and air filter replacement.

o Inspect and replace belts, hoses, batteries, and other components that may be worn or damaged.

o Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of dealership equipment, tools, and machinery.

3. Customer Interaction:

o Communicate directly with service advisors or customers to explain vehicle issues, repairs needed and provide cost estimates.

o Keep customers informed about the status of their vehicle and any changes to the original service estimate or timeline.

o Provide recommendations for preventative maintenance to help customers prolong the life of their vehicles.

4. Safety and Quality Control:

o Follow safety procedures and protocols when working with vehicles, tools, and chemicals.

o Adhere to dealership and manufacturer guidelines for vehicle repair and maintenance.

o Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

o Conduct quality checks on vehicles after repairs are made to ensure the job is done correctly.

5. Collaboration and Teamwork:

o Work closely with other technicians, service advisors, and parts personnel to ensure efficient workflow and accurate vehicle service.

o Attend training sessions and keep up to date with the latest vehicle technologies and repair techniques.

o Assist in mentoring or guiding junior technicians as needed.

Qualifications:

1. Education:

o A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional technical training or certification in automotive repair is preferred.

2. Experience:

o At least 1-3 years of experience as an automotive service technician or mechanic is preferred.

o Experience with a wide range of vehicle makes and models is an advantage.

o Familiarity with modern automotive technology, including diagnostic systems, electrical components, and hybrid or electric vehicle systems, is a plus.

3. Skills and Abilities:

o Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle issues quickly and accurately.

o Excellent mechanical skills and knowledge of automotive systems and components.

o Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively.

o Strong attention to detail, ensuring that repairs are completed to the highest standard.

o Good communication skills, particularly when interacting with service advisors and customers.

4. Other Attributes:

o Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a busy environment.

o Willingness to continue learning and attending training to stay current with advancements in automotive technology.

o A team-oriented attitude with the ability to work collaboratively with other technicians and service staff.

Driving Requirements:

· Valid Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required as the technician may need to drive customer vehicles for test drives, positioning, or delivery within the dealership premises.

· Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record is typically required, especially for dealership insurance purposes and for driving customer vehicles.

· Occasional Driving: The technician may need to drive customer vehicles to verify repair completion or test the vehicle after repairs have been made.

Employment Position: Full Time

Salary: $25.00 - $40.00 Hourly

Hyundai Technical Training Equivalency Assessment Program

Hyundai welcomes experienced technicians from other OEMs. The program allows technicians with training from an industry-recognized source, other than Hyundai, to test out of certain Hyundai instructor-led technical training courses, provided they meet certain requirements.
